Buying Guide: Longspan Shelving

BASIC TERMS

To ensure you get the right product for your space and storage needs, you should
familiarise yourself with some basic terms before buying your shelving.

KEY SHELVING DIMENSIONS

  • Height – the height of the unit is measured from the floor to the top of your frame. Shelving Pro offers either 2 metres or 2.4 metres high in most configurations.
  • Depth – Shelving Pro units come in a standard depth of 600mm. This is the most common size to optimise for storage capacity and easy access.
  • Length – the length of your shelves is determined by the size beam. We offer 1200, 1500 and 2000mm sizes in most configurations.

KEY SHELVING COMPONENTS

These components all come together to form a shelving bay.

  • Frame – the frame consists of 2 uprights, 3 horizontal braces and 2 diagonal braces. Our Assembly Instructions give details on how these come together.
  • Beams – beams attach to the frame and come in a variety of lengths. When purchasing extra beams or shelf panels, be sure you get the correct size to match and fit your existing bay.
  • Shelf Panels – this is the surface you will be storing items on. Shelving Pro uses steel shelf panels for strength and durability over time and in case of any spills.

Adding Additional Bays?

Are you thinking of joining bays together to get more storage, save space and save
money? This is known as a “run” of shelves.

If you are planning a run of longspan shelves, you will need to keep the following points in mind:

  • Every run starts with a complete Bay. A complete bay consists of 2 frames and the shelves.
  • You can then add as many Additional Bays as your space allows. You will notice that Additional Bays are cheaper to buy – this is because they only include 1 frame and the shelves (you can then connect to the initial complete Bay).

As you can see, creating a run of shelves takes up less space than just having a series of standalone complete Bays.
